Naples (Napoli in Italian) is one of the oldest cities in the world - its existence dates back to more than 2,800 years ago. Imagine, there was recorded life here since the 8th century BC.
Naples is also known for being the place where pizza was invented. The first pizza is believed to have been invented In the 16th century using a flatbread which was originally used to check the oven’s temperature. It was covered with white sauce, oil, cheese or fish. It became more popular when a chef made a special pizza for the Queen – Pizza Margherita as you guessed. :) Too bad though, we didn’t have time to stop for a pizza since we were running late.
Sharing with you some photos I took during the trip.
A cute Einstein billboard.
This is the Maschio Angioino. Legend says that the prisoners of the fortress kept underground used to disappear because of a crocodile was able to get inside through a hole and brought the prisoners out to the sea. (I suspect that he actually ate them! Just kidding...)

Just outside the castle, there’s sidewalk tiangge.
The Royal Palace of Naples.
Here’s the San Carlo Theater which was built in 1737– it’s the oldest working theatre in Europe. Wow, that’s 274 yrs of operations to date!
Right at the center is the Basilica of San Francesco de Paola. For the record, this is just one of Naples’ recorded 448 historical churches. Wow…
I would have loved to stay longer to explore this UNESCO World Heritage site but our tour was very quick. :(
