Top 5 reasons why going on a cruise is fun

I used to think going on a cruise is boring. You’re stuck in a ship for days with nothing to do so how is it supposed to be fun, right? But after a 6-day cruise experience aboard Star Virgo (covering Singapore, Penang, Langkawi, Malacca and Phuket), I’ve become a convert. :)

Here are my top reasons why I think going on a cruise is fun:

1. From 6:30am to the wee hours of the morning, there are activities you can enjoy. Adults, teens and kids have their own set of actvities. There are dance sessions, magic shows, bingo socials, charades, mahjong lessons, beauty demos, relaxation classes, basketball shootout, scrabble tournaments, sushi-making lessons, scavenger hunt, origami workshops, playstation tournament, among a whole slew of activities.

2. There’s sssooooo much food! You’ll never go hungry! Hehe…. As part of the cruise package, you get to eat buffet every meal! There’s Chinese, Continental, Japanese, Southeast Asian…there are about 10 different restaurants (excluding bars). But at any given meal, you can only pick among 3 restaurants so make sure you to eat in a designated resto or you’re gonna be charged extra.

3. There are theme parties you can enjoy (even if you’re a non-drinker like me!). Pirates’ party, Sailors’ Party, Pajama Party….we didn’t have any costumes with us but my cousin and I just went to watch the entertainment and the games and it was really fun. Most of the cruise staff and entertainers were Pinoys and they were really good! There’s also the Captain’s Night – this you can’t miss!!!  Make sure to bring formal wear and be on time so you can join the photo-op with the Captain and the officers of the ship.

4. You get to explore places in between sailing. The ship docks to some place everyday and you’ve the option to go on excursion trips (for an extra fee).  We were able to see Langkawi, Phuket, Malacca and Kuala Lumpur. But even if you stay in the ship, there are more than enough activities onboard to keep you busy and happy. :)

5. The ship has complete amenities - gym, videoke bar, pool, casino, spa, beauty salon, cinema, sunbathing deck, jogging circuit, mini golf and driving range, basketball court, jumbo chess board, table tennis facilities, library and duty free shops.

P.S. If you are wondering if you’ll get sea-sick, cruises are huge that you'll barely feel any motion unless the waves are really strong.
