Ever wondered what was on Da Vinci's To Do List?

I use 'to do' lists and checklists a lot so when I came across this article that talks about Leonardo Da Vinci's To Do List, I was so curious to know what was on the to do list of such a great and talented mind.

Apparently, Da Vinci carried a notebook around with him and he liked to write and draw anything that moved him.   He once wrote - "It is useful to constantly observe, note and consider.

Ready to know what was on Da Vinci's to do list in the 1490s????  He was then in his late 30s to early 40s.

Brace yourself!  Here are my favorites (even if I don't understand most of them! 😂)-
  • [Calculate] the measurement of Milan and Suburbs
  • [Discover] the measurement of Corte Vecchio (the courtyard in the duke’s palace).
  • [Discover] the measurement of the castello (the duke’s palace itself)
  • Get the master of arithmetic to show you how to square a triangle.
  • Get Messer Fazio (a professor of medicine and law in Pavia) to show you about proportion.
  • Get the Brera Friar (at the Benedictine Monastery to Milan) to show you De Ponderibus (a medieval text on mechanics)
  • Draw Milan
  • Ask Maestro Antonio how mortars are positioned on bastions by day or night.
  • [Examine] the Crossbow of Mastro Giannetto
  • Find a master of hydraulics and get him to tell you how to repair a lock, canal and mill in the Lombard manner
  • [Ask about] the measurement of the sun promised me by Maestro Giovanni Francese
Mind-blowing, right?!

But what's even more amazing is - there he was, a genius, and on his list are a lot of action items where he is seeking out the help of others to teach him.   And maybe that was his secret for developing multiple intelligences.

In another to do list around 1510 (Da Vinci was in his late 50s to early 60s then), a time when he had a growing fascination with anatomy,  you know what was on his list?
  • Get a skull
  • Describe the jaw of a crocodile
  • Describe the tongue of a woodpecker
  • Assess a corpse using his finger as a unit of measurement

😲😱

Sorry, I was just really blown away by what Da Vinci had on his to do list that I had to share it.  His lists make mine look like a jumble of trivial matters and nonsense.  My recent to do on measuring is to measure the height of my bathroom sink and tap so I can buy a new faucet without changing my sink.  😂😂😂
